Deebo and I sort of had it out last night. Surprisingly, I won.

For those of you who don't know, I met this dog April of 2006. He was about 4 years old (I think), unneutered, unsocialized, and left in the backyard all day long alone. Gos was working 14 shifts a week and didn't have the time to devote to a dog this size. Libby was 9 and not allowed to play with Deebo without supervision let alone walk him!

I finally convinced Gos to neuter him after we moved into the house we are in now. I won't say that it made him a lamb, but it did help significantly with his behavior. Adding two dogs for him to play with and introducing him to humans has helped a lot. I work with him daily on sitting, staying, and who's the boss.

The stories about what the Obama White House has to say about Fox News Channel keep coming.

There was White House communications director saying telling Howard Kurtz of The Washington Post and CNN "let's not pretend they're a news network the way CNN is."

Also last week it was NPR's David Folkenflik reporting that "the White House is taking direct aim at Fox News, the news organization that is the home to the most potent collection of its conservative critics."

This week it's ABC News' Jake Tapper asking why the Obama team was treating one of the "sister organizations" so badly -- and the news that the White House had tried to block a Fox News reporter from interviewing the so-called pay czar. (After all the networks objected, the White House relented.)

It seems like time for a survey:

Janis Ian Concert

Just for those who are interested... the Janis Ian concert at Doesy Doe in the Woodlands was fantastic!  I laughed and I bawled.  She's a master wordsmith and entertainer.  The 2 hour concert flew by in the blink of an eye.  We splurged by purchasing her "best of" CD and autobiography.  Each chapter of the book is based on one of the songs on the CD.  And we got them both autographed!  All proceeds go to the Pearl foundation, which she created to send women back to school.

"In a complaint filed in federal court in Connecticut, Gina Uberti alleges she was unfairly terminated for practicing Wicca, known as the largest of neopagan religions"

I saw this article on the CMA Village forum and felt compelled to repost a link to it here.  My boss jokes about declaring himself Wiccan and taking Halloween off as a religious holiday.  He's very agnositc and knows I'm pagan, so I don't really worry about him.  But I have worked for some very Christian people and have worried that they would find a way to include me in a layoff because of my beliefs.

In case anyone was wondering what those lovely blue flowers were at the campground! I'm using this shot as my current wallpaper. I just love the flower.

I'm kinda feeling like this cow today...

I'm not sure why I like this shot. There's something so pastoral about this cow calmly chewing while the young calves sprint away from the mean human with a black clicking box. She seems so relaxed... kind of like how I was feeling.

I took this over the weekend while running from camp to Smithville for supplies. I was astounded by the number of butterflies in the area. It was kind of crazy how many were around and getting smashed by vehicles. I would be interested in knowing if they were on a migratory path.

I set Wikipedia to be my home page a few months ago.  Ever since, I've been pleased by the stories and other tidbits that they have on their front page.  Today's featured story really caught my attention, so I thought I would share it with you.

"Mary Toft (1701–1763) was an English woman from Godalming, Surrey, who in 1726 became the subject of considerable controversy when she hoaxed doctors into believing that she had given birth to rabbits."

Yeah, I read that and went WTF?  I had to read more...

The campout was GREAT! Beautiful weather and great folks. I had such a great time. My only complaint was the mosquitoes. They were horrendous! It seemed like no matter what we did they attacked. Even completely covering yourself in bug spray with DEET didn't help much. They would just hover looking for the tiniest bit of skin that you missed. Despite this we all had a fantastic time.

Even though I'm back in Houston and back at work, I'm still keeping that peace.

Yes, it's 3:25AM and I'm still working. We ran into an issue and no one knew how the application was supposed to work because the programmers weren't available. So, we've figured out how it's supposed to work and which server is "broken". Now the on-call mail guy and some very tired techs are trying to fix it. I'm letting them work and entertaining myself with LOL dogs.

I think I'm fighting a sinus infection...

  • Oct. 8th, 2009 at 4:07 PM

I'm one of those blessed folks who has had sinus problems since she was a kid.  I can tell when one is forming.  I can tell when it's bad enough that a doctor will actually prescribe something for it.  Right now it's too early to go to the doctor about it.  They would just tell me to go home and see if it gets better (yes, that's happened with several doctors before both allergists and GPs).

Anyway, I'm taking [info]flowing_dancer 's advice and taking massive quatities of vitamin C.  I'm also taking Elderberries and drinking lots of water and juice.  Throw in trying to do a nasal wash with something that has Xylitol in it and you've got what I'm doing to combat this thing.  I think I'll have something with garlic and ginger for dinner.  Maybe something spicy.  That should provide more immune boosting and clear out the sinuses.

I felt this start on Tuesday...  please don't let me be sick for festival!
